A Matter of Class by Mary Balogh5/25/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() I am not much attached to physical things. I eat mostly fruits and vegetables, so a bit of both, I suppose. When it comes to food do you like sweet or savoury or both? How would you describe yourself – temperamental or easy-going? It never really occurred to me that we were living on the very edge of poverty. But I had the happiest childhood any child could ask for. Looking back I can see that it must have been a miserable, precarious time of deprivation and insecurity for our parents. Those toys we had we prized and looked after. The bombed buildings were our playgrounds, our imaginations our greatest asset. It all seemed quite normal to us children. We had ration books, but even using those was not easy as there were terrible shortages of everything in the stores. The city had been almost flattened by heavy bombing and there were very few material possessions. I was born in Swansea, an industrial port city in South Wales, toward the end of World War II. I’m thrilled to welcome New York Times Bestselling Author MARY BALOGH to Rakes and Rascals today for an exclusive interview.Ĭould you tell us where you were born and what it was like growing up there? ![]()
